Choosing your Colour Pallet

Traditional red, white and green are a classic combination for Christmas, but you can also have fun with different colours, we went for retro vibe for ours.  You can easily change out the colours and embellishment's to fit any season.

Is this Pattern Beginner Friendly?

Yes. Once you get the hang of the linked double crochet, the rest is simply working in a spiral. The video tutorial helps guide you through each part of the pattern if you are unsure of anything and the stitch markers help you keep track of stitches.

Candy Cane Cosy Written Pattern

Make your starting chain as wide as your pocket tissues (or gadget) and then add one extra chain (we chained 9 for ours).

Working in the back bumps

Round 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch until last ch, 3 sc in next st. Now work across the bottom of foundation chain. Sc in each st across, 2sc in 1st st (this is the st that already has 1 sc in it).

Round 2 hdc in 1st st, pm, ldc in next and each st around. Remember to move marker up after each round.

Repeat round 2 until cosy is long enough to reach the top of your tissues, or gadget (approx 10 rounds for tissues), ending on the st before marker, hdc in next st.

Button & Loop

  • Sc in each st around until you reach the middle of the back of the cosy, ch 15–20 sts for the button loop
  • Adjust the number of chains if making a gadget cosy, just make the chain long enough to reach where you would like the button to be.
  • Sl st to last sc, sc in remaining sts, join with sl st to 1st st
  • Fasten off and weave in ends.
  • Sew on your festive button.

Customisation

You can easily adapt this pattern to fit phones, e-readers, tablets, or anything else you want to cover. Just make your starting chain the same width as the item you want to cosy. If you want to use a different weight yarn, that’s totally fine — just use the hook size recommended on the yarn ball band.

For items that need a bit more padding, like gadgets, try using a chunky or thicker yarn for extra protection and a sturdier finish.

For smaller items like a gift card, try using DK or fingering weight yarn and make your starting chain just a little shorter than the width for a snug fit.
